The Bishop O’Donnell Road/Seamus Quirke Road Improvement Scheme involves upgrading of approximately 2km urban road including provision for bus priority, signalisation of key junctions, linking of signals into the city wide Urban Traffic Management Control system and provision of dedicated cycle tracks.
We undertook the role of Road Safety Auditor for all phases of the scheme including Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3 and Temporary Traffic Management.
Our Audit Team specifically focused on ‘how all road users cope at all times and in all conditions (road user role play)’, ‘interaction between design elements’ and what practicable measures could be implemented to reduce accident frequency and severity and improve road safety. The risk assessment process undertaken, together with our experience of designing practical and cost effective safety related engineering solutions, ensured that the cost of implementing any Audit recommendations was kept to a minimum and is proportionate to the reduction in risk achieved. Our problem recommendations were focused on low-cost high impact solutions, thus ensuring Value for Money for the Client.
